Laser Hair Removal

There hasn't been a day that most of us haven't hated the maintenance of shaving our legs and underarms. When laser hair removal first became an option we surely hoped it wasn't one of those hair removal fads that were soon to be debunked as a form of long term hair removal. Skin care clinics in San Diego like ours are buzzing with the new forms of hair removal.

Intense pulsed light or IPL is a form of light therapy that emits a wavelength into the skin. Using a little gun device the heat from the light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair killing the growing cells that make the hair. Laser hair removal uses an actual laser and targets the hair, where the IPL is more wide and heats up the surrounding skin.

Being in San Diego where bare skin and beaches abound, the idea of throwing out our razors is very attractive. It's really important to have a consultation with our trained & experienced technician and even ask for a patch test to see how your skin reacts. Either way it takes several sessions to kill off the new hairs that will grow in.

In a mostly sunny area like San Diego, many people are used to baring their skin year-round. Yet while shorts, tank tops, and sundresses may keep us cool, they can also make it necessary to find a way to eliminate the body hair that could otherwise make them feel self-conscious or less attractive. That can be a real nuisance, since depilatories are messy, waxing is painful, and the constant need to shave is tiresome.

What makes someone a great candidate for laser hair removal in San Diego?

You have unwanted body hair.

First and foremost, laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure. It's meant to make you feel better about yourself. If you find your body hair to be unsightly, then it is your choice to do something about it. Whether the hair is on your arms, legs, upper lip, back, or elsewhere, it can be taken care of.

You're sick of shaving, waxing, or bleaching your hair.

Maintaining a hairless aesthetic can be exhausting, expensive, and time consuming. Over the course of a lifetime, a woman spends an average of 72 days shaving her legs. Maintaining hair on other parts of the body can be even more time consuming.

Shaving every day often results in razor burn, which is arguably worse than being unshaven, and waxing -- well, waxing hurts!

You have dark hair and light skin.

On people with pale complexions, dark hair is much more noticeable. While blondes can often get away with not shaving regularly and still baring their skin, dark hair is much harder to mask, especially against pale skin.

During the laser hair removal process, the lasers specifically target the pigments of the hair. The light is attracted to darker hair, and can travel faster through lighter skin. So not only are people with darker hair and lighter skin more likely to seek out laser hair removal, but the procedure has a much higher success rate for these individuals.

While statistically women undergo laser hair removal more frequently, men are equally good candidates for the procedure.
